Updates?
1/27/2008 03:29:00 PM So. I'm trying to think of what the hell I could update about in my blog. Because I definitely have been feeling that I needed to update it recently, and with some actual content (as much as I love Tina Fey, no offense). However, things have been...I don't know. Just pretty calm and un-blog-worthy lately? Well, I'm sure if I were feeling clever enough I could make anything blog-worthy, so instead let's blame it on my lack of creativity of late. Which I could in turn blame on my schedule. So here's something update-ish. After returning to school this Spring I got an internship with an in-house production company, Mercury Multimedia, and I'm working in post-production for my internship. They started me off fast and furiously, and after my first week of working there, I've already edited one of the TV shows they air, and got my name in title credits of the show (called "Virtual Open House"...yeah, it's a boring real-estate show) that aired this Saturday on ABC. I'm pretty sure it's only local programming, but they also post episodes online, so once it's up maybe I'll post a link to the ep I edited on. Also, I just had an interview last week with another company (much bigger, and f-ing cooler...yeah, so cool that I had to include "f-ing" in front of it) called Image Technologies. They not only do production, and post-production, but they also build sets for the Opera companies around St. Louis, and do lighting--not just lighting for the videos/commercials/shows they shoot, but like hardcore lighting for concerts, special events, etc. Light shows. Tha fancy stuff. The deal was that I had already agreed to interview with them, but the guy was out of town for a couple weeks, and I ended up having to accept my other option first, just because classes were starting, and it was taking too long for them to get back to me. So me, being either wise or evil, depending on how you look at it, decided I would still go on this other interview anyways, just for networking purposes, or so that they could meet me and remember my face if I was ever trying to work with them again later. Originally I figured I'd go do the interview, and then a couple days later apologetically tell them that I'd decided to accept a position elsewhere, and send them a thank you card. HOWEVER---after I went and saw their warehouses full of stuff, the studio, and the editing suites, I suddenly really really wanted to do whatever I had to, to get my foot in their door. So I told the gentleman interviewing me (after offering me the job) upfront that I already had another internship that I was doing for school credit, but I enjoyed meeting him, touring the studio, etc. and would like to do an internship just for experiece's sake, and told him my availabilities, and also mentioned if the scheduling didn't work out for whatever reason, that I would consider doing a post-gradutate internship. Of course, I realized while I'm saying this that I'm crazy. For trying to do two internships, which = no pay, and cuts into time that I could be working more hours at ResTech, where I do get paid. Not to mention, the idea of having 3 jobs all on top of being a full time student, with 15 credit hours of classes this semester. Then, as if it's a bad thing, he tells me...."well, because of insurance reasons we would have to pay you. Is that okay?" It was as if the choir of angels had burst out into "Hallelujah" above my head. I said, hells yes, that's okay!!! No, actually I believe I said, "Yeah, that would be fine." Um, that would be more than fine. To quote Chandler from an episode I caught recently, "that would be perfection". Instantly I felt MUCH less retarded for trying to land this internship as well. Who cares if it eats up more hours from ResTech if I'm getting paid, to do work in the field I'm trying to break into. So he's gonna get back to me about if they can have something for me to do with the hours I gave him, and if it doesn't work out, at least I could try for the summer, where if I was getting paid, doing an internship would totally be possible as long as I had a 2nd job, to help pay rent (as opposed to doing an un-paid internship and trying to still live in this city). That's the weekend update. Now I really need to get back to writing my paper on the Writer's Strike (I wish I were ballsy enough to strike against writing this paper in honor of their situation). |
