Mraz - The Beauty In Ugly
2/28/2007 02:31:00 PM The music video is up for free download on iTunes right now. And later this week (or next week?) Mraz has another exclusive online album coming out. I think this one will be available from his itunes as well as his online store like "Selections for Friends". Only this time its an album full of songs that inspired him, so him doing a bunch of random covers. Anyway for the real info on that go to the man himself (www.jasonmraz.com) Monday, February 26, 2007
2/26/2007 10:32:00 PM Yay! So I finally got to bed last night at 4:00am, and presented my portfolio review today at noon, and......I passed! Woohoo! I get to graduate! So, apparently the panel thinks I should ditch any dreams of possibly teaching, and getting a masters degree in Media Literacy, and instead pursue video editing and photography in the big cities (literally their words were "You don't wanna stay in Loup City, Nebraska for the rest of your life. It'd be a waste", and if I really want to teach in the future go for a MFA (Masters in Fine Arts) in Video Production, Photography, or New Media (if I'm so into the web, and culmination of media on the internet). Interesting. Especially that they kept pointing out photography, when that's not my minor or even something I've remotely focused on--I just thought I'd share some of my work in the overall review of my shiz.

Portfolio Review
2/22/2007 09:26:00 AM Okay, the panic is definitely settling in now. Pretty much constantly. I'll be fine. And I know I'll be fine. But I'm so damn nervous. I'm gonna die. Monday, February 19, 2007
Sweet!! Guess what?
2/19/2007 09:59:00 PM I just landed myself a radio show!! That's right, Steph will finally live out her childhood dream of getting to be a radio D.J. It's flippin' fantastic, I'll have an hour slot minimum, and I get to choose what kind of show I wanna do. I had some creative ideas that I pitched to the program director of KGLX "The Galaxy" here at Webster, and I'm totally in. He really liked my "Music You See" idea of possibly doing songs you hear weekly on television, in episodes of various series. Of course if that becomes too narrow and I run out, I might also branch out to film soundtracks. Anyways, I'm totally jazzed.

2/18/2007 06:19:00 PM Hmmm, sounds like someone wrote themselves a happy little ditty about depression? I think I like it. One Minute You’re going crazy, Running on empty, You can’t make up your mind, You try to hide it, But you had to say it, Restless all this time, So completely drained from every thing that’s in your life, It’s so wrong but you had to scream every thought you kept inside, One minute you laugh, The next minute you’re slowly sinking into something black, I get the feeling that lately nothing ever really lasts,I keep trying to get up but I keep falling back, And you love, And you hate, And you wait, Cause one minute goes fast, You just can’t escape it, You’re losing patience, You wonder what went wrong, Everything changes, Happy then jaded, Always a different song, Playin’ in your head just when you think you got it down, Out of nowhere you realize it’s different music playing now, One minute you laugh, The next minute you’re slowly sinking into something black, I get the feeling that lately nothing ever really lasts, I keep trying to get up but I keep falling back, And you love, And you hate, And you wait, Cause one minute goes fast

2/16/2007 01:33:00 PM Ah! I finally just saw Grey's from last night, and I have to say (though this may sound wrong) how great is it that they killed Meredith!? I mean, I love her and all, and I hope it's just a momentary heart stop and they'll bring her back thing, but I loved that the bomb squad dude, and Denny made re-appearances. I love Denny. I almost wish the show would continue with Meredith dead and in Seattle-Grace-Heaven, just so we could see more Denny. *sigh* Is that horrible? Haha. Tuesday, February 13, 2007
Woohoo!
2/13/2007 04:19:00 PM Class was cancelled!! As were all of them today. The university is closed! Wee! So I think I shall watch a Streep movie AND Flushed Away.
You know what?
2/13/2007 09:13:00 AM I don't like my Web Animation class. I would rather stay here and watch a Meryl Streep movie, or Flushed Away, which for some ungodly reason, I decided to download yesterday. Perhaps I was swayed by the influence of my film teacher talking about it. Perhaps his opinion was swayed by his 2 and 4 year old daughters. But alas. Off to class. Lame. Sunday, February 11, 2007
What is wrong with me!
2/11/2007 05:07:00 PM Seriously....I have some of the worst procrastination issues in the world. I have sooooooo soooo much that I needed to get done this weekend, and I haven't been doing any of it. Instead I play on Ebay (which is never helpful, especially to your bank account) or scour for movies or soundtracks I've always wanted (thanks to the wonderulness that torrent sites bring us these days--I know I know...piracy is bad..yada yada) or go to the Dollar Tree and buy supplies for 'surprises' so that I can go home and be craft and waste even more time. OR go type on my blog about how worthless about getting started on things I am. Anything but start the actual tasks, right? Today I watched one of my final Meryl Streep films (I only have one left), Dancing at Lughnasa, where she does an amazing portrayle of a righteous bitch. An strict Irish (very good accent as expected) bitch, mind you. But one that you of course love, like all her bitchy ass characters. Anyways, I don't know why any of that was important. Probably just filling more space and time by rambling. Hmm. I think it must've put me in a very Irish mood though, because then I got dressed and ended up in green pants, with my green Irish cap, and suddenly had the urge to figure out who the hell the band was that played the music in the 3rd Class Dance/Party scene in Titanic, because I really wanted to listen to it. It's Gaelic Storm by the way, and two of the songs they played are Drowsy Maggie/Blarney Pilgrim, and The Hills of Connemara. Lately I've been listening to a lot of film scores, instrumental music, and classical pieces. I don't really know why, but it's the latest phase. Actually I think I could accurately outline a path. I think it started with me being reminded of my love for Hans Zimmer after watching the Holiday. Then of course I waited on pins and needles for the release of the soundtrack. Which I actually saved money for and planned on buying. Only, I randomly came across it on a torrent site one day, so you better believe I was downloading that sucker instantly. Then of course I also was looking up some music by my other favorite composers for film, including the genius Danny Elfman and Gershwin, and began listening to stuff from not film composers but modern artists who have fabulous music that is often perfect for (and indeed used in) film, like Chantal Kreviazuk, some instrumental Tunstall tracks (I believe she will one day write music for film), etc. and then other songs from Love Actually, Romance & Cigarettes, and Moulin Rouge (not all original, but you gotta love the adaptations with all the strings added). And in the little preparation I had done the past weekend for my portfolio review I came across my papers I'd written with from all the symphony concerts I attended in London, and kinda went crazy in my guilt of not fully appreciating at the time the priveledge of seeing some of the world's greatest orchestras perform on a weekly basis. So then I was downloading all the songs from all the shows according to which I liked in my reviews of them. So there, is that an accurate enough explanation, that wasn't even necessary. But that's the track of my mind, and that's also a perfect example of what my mind does, in its attempts to distract my brain from the tasks at hand. Priorities. I don't think I have any. That's my problem. How do I get some of that stuff, that importance that I can associate with various tasks, so I can 'prioritize'. If it were available for purchase or download online, you could bet that I'd suddenly be looking for that instead of continuing to type here, and end my post. Which is gradually what I'm trying to achieve. On a random note, one of the songs I've been listening to quite a lot recently, is James Brown's "It's A Man's World". I think originally it was on my brain coming back from break, from seeing it in the Spike TV channel commercials, and then I had to download it along with the rest of the songs I was collecting from John Tuturro's Romance & Cigarettes. And anyways, today I was looking for a video of it on YouTube, and discovered that Christina Aguilera will be singing it at the Grammy's tonight. Which I had totally forgotten about, but will most likely watch. 1) to see that song, and 2) to continue avoiding work. *Sigh* I'm so predictable. Or am I really? Is it that I'm not predictable, but at the moment my brain has already decided I will watch the program and forgo homework, so that when it happens I won't feel as guilty about it? I'm so glad I didn't take any more psychology classes. The psyche is too perplex for me. Friday, February 02, 2007
Indie 103.1 Performances, Host Zach Braff
2/02/2007 11:46:00 PM I have no idea why I only found this today, but I came across this old webcast of Rehearsals.com streaming live performaces from artists such as Rachael Yamagata, Imogen Heap, and newly reunited Remy Zero, on the Last Kiss soundtrack (put together by Zach Braff). Rachael performed a new song from her upcoming album acapella, and Imogen did her version of acapella (kinda similar to KT's wee bastard Akai Head Rush Pedal, but a four track recorder that she loops by hititng buttons and not stomping on them, lol) on "Just for Now" --which is one of my favorites of hers, btw. So check that out here: Or check out the whole show here: http://rehearsals.com/exclusive/last_kiss/index.jsp
Holy Shiza!
2/02/2007 12:49:00 PM Okay, I was just in the library checking out the final additions needed for my "Meryl Streep Movie Marathon" weekend, by getting "Angels In America" and "Silkwood" which had been out yesterday when I grabbed the others ("Manhattan", "Adaptation", "Bridges of Madison County", and "Death Becomes Her"). I walk up to the circulation desk, and there's this guy there, who was asking about some cds, and he kinda glanced at my selections. To be honest, in my brain, I was thinking, yeah that's right, I'm gonna watch a movie with Meryl Streep AND Cher in it (this movie being Silkwood), thinking he probably thought I was weird or something. But anyways, he starts walking away, and the girl behind the counter asks the other guy working, who just finished helping the other gentleman, why there are two dvd copies of Silkwood -in addition to a VHS (usually our library has one or the other, or at most one of each format) and was slightly confused as it wasn't a two disc set, and both discs were exactly the same. So the other guy was just like, "uhh, yeah, we have two copies of that on dvd", so she asks why, and he answers "Well...you know that guy that was just here asking about those cds?" "Yeah" "He's the producer of that film." "Really?" "Yeah. He makes sure we have enough copies of his stuff" "Hmmm. I didn't know that" I was like.....uhhhhhhh.....I was just standing next to the producer of Silkwood????? Hello!!! WTF!! How cool is that though? At least I know now that he wasn't looking at me thinking I was wierd for checking out that film (unless he hated it, which I highly doubt, because seriously, who would hate working with Meryl Streep, Cher, and Kurt Russell?) he was probably just happy to see someone checking it out. So I run home, and check IMDB, and unless he's one of the associated producers, or the director/producer Mike Nichols himself (which I doubt) he would most likely be Michael Hausman, who is sometimes credited as Professor Michael Hausman, which would explain his presence at Webster University, possibly as an adjunct faculty member? If it was indeed Hausman (which Sam thought was a familiar name when I asked her if we had any professors here by that name) then its especially freaky, because he also was the executive producer of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Gangs of New York, Brokeback Mountain, and All the Kings Men. So I'm kinda freaking out, but not really sure if I'm willing to accept that it could be him. There is most definitely a Nancy Hausman, who I know for sure is an adjunct faculty member here....if she's married to a producer or not, I have no idea. Crazyness.
