Saturday Night's Alright! 10/29/2006 07:03:00 PM

So yeah, I had this big fun blog written about Saturday's adventures, and then blogger just ate them.

Anyways, Saturday morning Sam and I decided to go to the St. Louis Zoo. We spent the majority of our time with the prarie dogs and the penguins, of course. We got to see them feed the penguins, and I tried to feed the prarie dogs, but they didn't like me. Or my lettuce anyways. I was a little hurt. I blame the garlic caeser salad smell.

After that we hit up the dollar tree for a little bit, and in my excitement I bought a bunch of christmas cards--even though we were there looking for cheap Halloween decorations.

We also went and saw "The Prestige" which I've been wanting to see forever. It only made me love Hugh Jackman more. He's definitley at the top of my lobster list now. 1) He's really hot. 2) He's very versatile as an actor (seriously who ele can go be Wolverine one minute and then a flamboyantly gay man in gold shiny pants singing on Broadway -he has an amazing voice, btw) and 3) He seems very genuine and cute and funny in his interviews. I particularly loved him on Leno and especially Ellen.

Then we went to eat supper at Marletto's. For some reason I got two bowls of cocoa puffs, and when I sat down I didn't want either of them. So I put one in front of Sam, cause she was occassionally eating a few (after I started throwing them at her), and then she randomly grabbed a bunch and I thought she was gonna throw them at me, but she just shoved them in her mouth. I burst out laughing and then decided we needed to have a cocoa puff eating contest--with no hands of course. So we leveled our bowls to make sure they were even and then shoved our faces in. It was hilarious and we kept laughing the whole time and spilling cocoa puffs all over and making funny noises, so I'm sure everyone was starting at us like we were idiots, but it was so fun. And absolutley ridiculous. But fun for an impromptu supper.

After that we came home and were supposed to play cards with our suitemate Christina, but she ditched us for some boys so we ended up watching "Wrong Turn" which I'd never seen, and probably will never watch again, despite the fact that my precious Eliza Dushku is in it. Sorry babe...it sucked. You were even better on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

And that's Saturday. Sunday was just me at work which = boring, so no need to waste a full paragraph on that.

Shocktoberfestweek 10/28/2006 11:36:00 AM

More to add to this week. Last night I got to go to a screening of Al Franken's God Spoke, which was hilarious. The coolest part was that the three filmakers, D.A. Pennebaker, Chris Hegedus, and Nick Doob, who made this documentary were all there, and earlier in the day for my History of Film class we got to have a private Q&A session with them and watch some clips from their other films. A list of which is pretty impressive. They're the ones who made "In the War Room" covering Bill Clinton's campaign for presidency, and is to this day considered one of the finest political documentaries. But of course, they've also done lots of non-political things, including the famous "Don't Look Back" documentary on Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix (you know the famous shot of him lighting his guitar on fire? yeah, that was them), David Bowie in his last performance as Ziggy Stardust, and Alice Cooper and band's first live performance ever.

Anyways, after that I met up with Sam, Christina, and Kelley at the showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show in the gym, which was fun, especially since they handed out little bags with props to throw/blow/shake during certain scenes, much like people do at the live screenings.

aaah! I love RHPS w/ props! Kayla and I used to go to this old theater where 20 people would show up and we'd all watch the movie while they would 'perform' it for us. The props were the best part!

Last Night Was Fun 10/24/2006 11:49:00 PM

After I got done with all my classes I get back and get an IM from Abby telling me to check my facebook messages so I can reserve a spot for getting into James Blunt's Soundcheck for free.

Only I get on Facebook, and instant get a message about a free screening of the Tina Turner biopic, due to it being Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Naturally I was like, Hell Yes! When?! And it said "TONIGHT!". So Sam and I decided to grab our stuff and go.

On the way out we saw a caution sign sitting in the hallway and it reminded me of when I used to tape various things to Abby's door (including a caution sign, orange safety cone, her shoe, etc.) so I told Sam we should tape it to her door...at the Apartments. Which is kinda on the way to the University Center where the movie was being shown, so I ran back to the room, got some tape, and we were off.

When we got to Abby's we taped the caution sign to her door as planned, and then Sam grabs their plastic lawn chair, and we hoisted that up and taped that to the door as well. It was hilarious.

Then we were off to the movie. Which was really good. I might be slightly biased due to the fact that I have a strange fascination with Tina Turner, but seriously. She rocks. Angela Basset was surprisingly really good as Tina..who lets just say is a very colorful person, so if she could pull off that character, then I was really impressed with her as an actress. She had the facials DOWN!!! And she got all freakishly muscle-y for the film too. Lawrence Fishburn played Ike Turner, which was kinda sad, cause I don't like to hate him, but he did a good job of making me feel that way towards him. Especially during the rape scene. Sam actually started like freaking out, kinda growling and yelled "Ughh! *MumbleMumble* ...kill him!" which was hilarious, cause everyone turned around to look at her.

Although they probably weren't suprised at this point, since moments before I had been doing the proud Mary dance from my seat (arm/head motions) with Tina on screen, and that attracted some looks.

Then after the movie Sam and I had to break into my classic Tina impersonation singing "Simply the Best" all the way home, which sadly was a song not in the movie. So its only fitting that we did so. Of course the crowd of other people who came out of the movie happened to be walking behind us the whole way home too, so they continued the laughing.

Then we ran into Rachel Lebo, who lived on our floor freshman year, so she knows that where there's Tina singing there's bound to be Steph, Sam, and Will. Only Will's in Leiden, in the Netherlands, otherwise I'm sure he'd have been right there with us. So anyways, we tell her about how we were also similarly to freshman year taping stuff to Abby's door earlier that night, so we get Rachel to be our lookout, and go get some free planners from the UC front desk and steal a salt shaker on the way as well, which we taped to Abby's apartment door (knowing that by now she'd probably have gotten home to find and remove the other items) along with a rock and some flyers.

It was great. Of course I got yelled at soon as I signed onto AIM back in the doorms, but I went ahead and apologized twice--which Abby didn't understand at first, but I'm sure she got it, once she left the apartment again this morning.

Lessons Learned:

1) Spontaneity is fun.
2) Tina Turner is amazing.
3) Masking Tape can hold up plastic lawn furniture and rocks just as well as duck tape, when used in large quanitities.

10/16/2006 09:45:00 PM

so the best thing ever happened after I blogged, and started off for work after my break.

Well, in a bit of a haste, I mistakenly left my bag with my keys etc in the room. Locking myself out in the process. Which I also did recently with my car but more on that later.

So, I decide to hustle over to ResLife to see if someone can let me in my room. Of course, let's not forget that in my earlier post I mentioned it was pouring outside. Luckily enough my umbrella was in my hand from taking prior notice of said downpour before my door shut, so I grabbed my ubrella, and promptly said "I Love You Umbrella" as I walked outside. However the umbrella must not have reciprocated the feeling for as I opened it, it bit me and I started to bleed.

That's just fookin' ace.

Not to mention that after I got a spare key from the ResLife desk, I couldn't get back into the building since my student ID card was in my room with my keys. So I jogged back to ResLife and fortunately enough was able to borrow someone's there.

---Lockout #2 (or technically #1 since it occured previous to today's)--------

So Saturday I was at the Post Office, and for the first time ever, locked my keys out of my car. I was freaking out, because my cell was inside the car, and I was all alone at a freaking mean ass post office with no friends in town due to Fall Break, and no way for people to even get to my room to get my spare for me, since my keys were in my car. So finally one of the people working decided to let me come to the back to use their phone, and while we were looking up the nearest Police Station, I studdenly remembered that 2 years ago, when I first arrived in St. Louis, Marc hid a spare key on my car somewhere before he and mom left back for Nebraska. So I ran out and was crawling around under my car and thankfully found it, and saved myself like $70 for calling a locksmith. I love him. Thanks Marc! :)

Strange, how hard it rains now... 10/16/2006 02:32:00 PM

Rows and rows of big dark clouds
When I'm holding on underneath this shroud
Rain Rain Rain

Ah yes...today, has been all rain rain rain. This morning as on my way to work, it was just the slight drizzle the kind you walk freely in, and the kind that lasts all day in London.

Of course I'm not in London, so I shouldn't have been surprised that it gradually turned into a downpour by the time I left work for my break.

Yet I love it, and the memories it conjours.

Jolly Saturday, Innit? 10/07/2006 04:35:00 PM

Well, today started off fairly ace, whether or not it intends to stay so.

I went to the bank this morning and the teller was absolutely fantastic. I loved her. It was amazing how, just by going in and cashing a check while hearing a few jokes and seeing a nice smile, can leave you grinning as you walk out of the building (though you're practically skipping inside) towards your car.

I came home and decided to do loads of laundry. Which initially was a good thing, although in my happy quest for clean clothing, I lost track of time and forgot about the FREE Edwin McCain (you know, 90's, "I'll Be") concert in the quad. Even though I drove by his tour bus while I cut across the parking lot to get to the garage this morning.

Oh well. I'm sure it was a good afternoon outdoor show, even if he is a bit washed up since the 90s. That's okay, I still have Mute Math to look forward to tommorrow night. And a dandy night it will be. Me and the Maestros of Electro-Rock (not to mention the Atari and Keytar). Shall be good fun.

Silent Films with Modern Music by the Devil Music Ensemble? 10/01/2006 04:13:00 PM

It's true.

Last night Sam and I went to the screening of the orginial 35mm print of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", with live accompaniment from the Boston group "Devil Music Ensemble" and it was actually really really good. Like fantastic.

I kinda fell in love with the guy on the right, whoever he may be, mainly because he played violin to the film, but also the keyboard, and the xylaphone. It just seemed to take a bit of talent you know, to be the sort of musician who's well rounded enough to play both the violin and the xylaphone. The dude in the middle just played guitars, and the guy on the left played drums, piano, and also did some live sampling. In that way and the way he played the drums it was kinda reminiscent of Mute Math.

But that may have only been because I had Mute Math on the brain before the show started. The peeps in front of us were talking about some cd this guy burned for this girl, and I heard her say "Snow Patrol" and I was like, "I LOVE SNOW PATROL!" to Sam. She was like, "I knew you had to be listening to that, haha" and then this other girl asked, "Are they kinda like Mute Math?" and I was like, "I LOVE MUTE MATH!!". Only I must have been slightly louder this time because the dude heard and was like, "You like Mute Math?" I replied with "Of course! Are you gonna see them next weekend at the Creepy Crawl?" and he said that yes, he and the girl to the left would be there, and asked if I was too, and I was like, "I will most definitely be there rocking out" which sounded kinda funny, and Sam and I started laughing, and then the lights went out for the movie to start.

Which was great like I mentioned earlier. So, I guess that pretty much brings it back full circle = end of blog post.
