Raul Midon *#*!@(*^%$@#@!&*#** Rocked My Face Off! 9/29/2005 04:28:00 PM

Okay, so last night I got to go to my last concert for a long time, as I will be saving money for, and then in, London.

Jason Mraz, with openers Raul Midon and Missy Higgins.

Missy kicked off the night, and was awesome. I had heard some of her stuff before, and I really appreciated her live, so I will most likely pick up the album. A used cheap version however, not the jacked up prices at the shows. She was good though. Delightful as a matter of fact. I couldn't help but be charmed by her and her guitar player..I mean..they're Aussie's. They are too cute when they talk.

Raul Midon was F-ing AMAZING! I swear on my music-loving soul. He needs to become a legend, he is the Stevie Wonder of our generation. For those who don't know (pretty much everyone who reads this, minus Maggie and Reid--remember his performance on Leno?) Raul is a blind and pretty much a one-man band. He plays his guitar, while keeping the beat (drumming on it) as he's also playing the melody (and sometimes bass line too), in additon to singing amazing vocals (very soulful) and being a human trumpet (he goes off on these riffs that are amazing, sounds better than any real trumpet I've heard). I am telling you, this guy is probably the most talented men, or person for that matter, I've ever seen in my entire life (and trust me, I've been to alot of shows, with alot of diverse sounds, styles, and levels of artistry and talent). I was definitely amazed by him before, from what I had heard and seen, but the live experience was something completely different. Honestly, at one point he almost moved me to tears. I was seriously standing there with tears in my eyes (although they didn't fall). The dude made me fall in love with him last night. SOOO Inspiring, and SOOO nice on top of that. His twin brother, also blind, works for NASA so there must be something in the genes cause he is a genius, in another way. A very humble, very amazing dude. Much love Raul <3 !

But of course, Mraz, you're still my #1 Geek, and Toca you're still my #1 Lving Teddy Bear---even though you went a little Madonna on me last night (or Janet Jackson if you prefer). Dude had himself a little headset mic, so's that he could wander around the stage with his drum on...very cool, despite the slightly disturbing headgear. I heart you Toca.

Mraz's set was muy excellente. I was really excited to hear the new material from the new album, and Sir did not dissapoint. Bill Bell's replacement on guitar was also quite impressive. I think Mraz fans will respond well to his addition to the Take It Easy Buddies.

Fun Moments:

Mraz did some high school slow dancing (ARMS LENGTH APART! OFF THE BEAT, PEOPLE!) as well as some robot dancing.

Eric had a 'clapper' on the lamp that sits on his keyboards. Mraz made use of this often.

Also Jason found his Poloroid, which was nice. I had missed it. This time it was attached to a large pole, with a button, so he could hold it up, or in front of himself or Adam (reaching over the drum kit) to take pics before throwing them into the audience.

He totally sang the first half of "Dramatica Mujer" (the spanish cover of his song) for Not So Usual. And also sang a verse of The Remedy in French. Muy Impressivo.

The boy was moving around quite oddly. Lots of energy tonight. He kept hopping up on speakers, and doing little spin dance moves, and a couple times just knelt down on the stage and would sing for a while. Once he finally caught himself, and was like, "I have no idea why I'm on my knees right now..." I think (and so does he) it was to get closer to the crowd, since our heads were level with the stage. He could have walked out amongst the faces. "I pulled up the floorboards, and there was this flesh floor under here. Fleshy flesh flesh faces"

And speaking of knees...some girl had brought him a chicken, which he sang about while waiting for a stage-hand to bring him back his guitar (I think he broke a string and they ran off to replace it) and she was holding the chicken (stuffed one mind you) above her head, so the song was something about "She brought a rooster for Meeeeee! She's holding it by it's Kneeeeeees! Oh look here comes my guitar, thanks, this guy's name is Richieeeeeeeee!" There was alot more, but I'm to lame to remember it now. It was fun.

Once again, I think I love him more and more each time I see him, if that's possible. Which it totally is, and I highly recommend all of you see a show sometime. You would really enjoy it. And while you're at it see Raul Midon.

Or at least go here and watch this clip to try and imagine how amazing he would be standing right in front of you playing a 7-8 song set.

PLEASE GO WATCH THIS VIDEO! (Letterman Performance)

OR THIS ONE! (Kennedy Center)

How pissed off am i that my speakers don't work for my computer??? I'm glad that you found your way to your home, even if you had to bump a few people to get there. I think it would be awesome to see him, but i think i might leave the concert going to you. Later.

Trouble 9/23/2005 08:19:00 AM

Current Mood: Anxious
Current Music: Trouble - Ray Lamontagne

Trouble, Trouble, Trouble...
Trouble just won't seem to leave my mind.
Worry. Worry, worry, worry....

Yeah, so I'm starting to think....the United Kingdom. I could really end up in alot of trouble with this, haha. Not only do I have to completely re-arrange my life here (once again--almost seems like something I do for fun after so many times now, in my life) but then while going over there will be all fun and dandy, I know I'll be paying for it when I get back, making my return more stressful and less divertida. But I guess that's the trade I'll be making in exchange for all the fun in London-Town. My head just hurts thinking about how much I have to get done before I go. Oy ve.

Get my passport this weekend, or in reality 6 weeks from now.

Find a replacement for my job @ BW.

Find a replacement for my apartment.

Find a new home for the ferret. My heart breaks thinking about it. I heart you Weezy.

Move all my shit out of my apartment and back to Nebraska. Ughh.

Save lots and lots of money for spending overseas.

Spend lots of money on a new laptop and digital camera for overseas.

Pay off my mom and my credit card once and for all.

Apply for a new world-wide accepted credit card for the traveling.

and lastly:

Learn how to pack for 5 months of Study Abroad.

Ok, so you're anxious... it's to be expected. I'm sure everything will be alright in time. Just let yourself relax and know that everything will be taken care of in it's proper time. You've wanted to go to London for too long to let the dream die. I'm sure everything will be fine. And if nothing else, why do you think loans exist? : P. I'm hoping for all the best.

So Abby and I are going to London. 9/18/2005 05:05:00 PM

I'm glad she's coming with me. It now holds the promise of many more entertaing moments.

We already discussed finding a Turkish Man and/or his goat, and I am dead set on getting photographic proof.

There is sooo much to do in preparation. I have to start sending things home again in small bundles, since I'll be leaving the apt, and get my passport, and buy a new cool digital camera (for the pics of the goat and palace guards of course) and also a new laptop, since it's ultimately cheaper than repairing my own. Besides that?

Umm...a journal for daily usage. Tickets to see Mraz in London? Lol. And all the other way more important things, that I have to start thinking of now. Anyways, I just realized I hadn't officially posted about London on my blog yet, so I figured this would do. Now I just have to figure out if living with Abby is going to drive me insane alone, or if I wanna take the chance of putting a 3rd person at risk in the room with us.

I like these chairs 9/16/2005 08:01:00 AM

at the Help Desk.

They are extra-wide, so when I get tired of sitting like a normal person, I can hit it up Indian Style. Which is extremely comfy. Especially when sitting for hours. I also expect it is great for your posture too, compared to slouching and trying to half lay down and sleep since you were up at 6:00 am to come work at the Help Desk.

How did my love and appreciation for George Foreman go unrecognized for so long? 9/14/2005 07:26:00 PM

So this morning I woke up at 7am, wrote my paper for Cultural Diversity in the Media that was due for today. Finished by 8:00, went back to bed until 9am, and then got up and got ready for the day, and arrived at class at 10:00 on the dot, ready to hand said paper into teacher. I really think I love this class the mostest. We have really good dicussions, and everyone is pretty open minded and nice. Today we passed judgements on our teacher. She has a 12 yr old. She seems too young to have a 12 yr old. Anyways, some people got carried away with their honesty, lol. Later she mentioned that she may have been lying about the kid, to stir up some discussion, and Julie to my left said "I don't think so. I don't think you're smart enough to do that". Hahaha. It was great.

Then I had my Study Abroad Interview, which went really well. The guy pretty much told me *unofficially* that I was accepted and that I should be getting my forms to fill out in about two weeks in the mail. He also "suggested" that I would be recieving the Free Flight Award (he handpicks the students who recieve this and I had a very good letter of reccomendation from a teacher). So it looks like I'm going to London, Baby!

I'll just skip Media Writing since I loathe it so much.

And now, at home, I'm making chicken on my nifty little Lean, Mean, Gilling, Machine that Marc got me for Graduation last year. I hadn't been able to use it before, cause I couldn't have it in the dorms, and up untill this last week I was too poor to afford chicken. Oh, you better believe I compensated by buying a pack of like 24 boneless, skinless, chicken breasts from Sam's. So now I must go enjoy ;)

So, my Study Abroad Advisor is cute... 9/08/2005 02:14:00 PM

and I did my little information session today, and turned in my application. Now all that's left is to get a Proffessor Recommendation and pass my Interview this coming Tuesday.

Oh yeah, and then I have to get a passport, but whatever. It's all good. And the tuition doesn't change at all, it's the same, so that's nice. All I'll need money for are room & board. Yay! I'm kind of afraid of the meal plans over there though...could be scary. They eat just about every part of the animal that we throw away. Maybe I'll be a part-time vegetarian. Who knows. But I'm excited now!

do i really care how your study abroad advisor looks? I know that you just want attention, and a title like that will get a larger group of people to actually read the post. But next time be a little more considerate of the Only one that reads your blog : P. Hope all goes well in England, maybe i'll have to visit you while you're there : D. Obnoxious Walrus.

Okay, so things might not be as bad as I thought they would be. 9/06/2005 01:47:00 PM

I found a new lab that has recently been updated with Adobe Premiere, so now I can just worry about either fixing my computer, or buying a decent enough laptop that I can take to London with me, instead of worrying about buying a MAC with Adobe Premiere or fixing AND upgrading my own computer with the software/hardware needed.

So basically, I just have to spend less money that I thought. Which is good. It's amazing how much of a relief the thought of not being in more debt brings me.

So by Friday, I should have Ruth and my credit card mostly paid off, and then I'll just have to worry about saving money for London.

'Tis good. Not to bore you all with the mundane details of my monetary matters.

On a lighter note, I think I may be developing allergies. I have been sneezing way too much lately, and can't sleep because the truckloads of mucus in my head start to roll down my throat at night. I should look into that.

Untill then, I'll continue to grab for kleenex every 15 seconds untill I decide to give up on sleep and just watch some episodes of Friends (as was my solution last night). It's amazing how much that show can make you feel better. It truly is the best gift of distraction from life--or mucus.

What is WRONG with me! 9/01/2005 12:33:00 PM

Seriously!!

Lately I've been telling people my name is "Stephanie". WHY? That's not my name! It's "Steph"! I never introduce myself as Stephanie. EVER! But for some reason I did it. TWICE! And in all of my classes, the teachers call out my name, and I didn't correct them! So now they call me "Stephanie" in class. AND I ANSWER! What is going ON!? Maybe I can just keep writing my name as Steph on my papers, and they will get it. I think I did that last year with one teacher...and then he got really mad at me and asked why I never told him to call me Steph..hehe.

On another note, who thinks it's funny that I can be in mid-conversation getting into my car, but as soon as I hear Reba's "Fancy" come on the radio, I leave off with my convo and instantly start singing wherever the song picks up untill it's done, before I continue? Anyone? I do. Apparently those who were talking to me prior to the breakout performance don't so much. But I can't help it. It's like I enter a whole other little world whenever I hear that song. It doesn't matter what mood I'm in or what kind of day it is, I hear it and I'm instantly transformed--singing and smiling for at least an hour. I LOVE it!
