Raul Midon *#*!@(*^%$@#@!&*#** Rocked My Face Off! 9/29/2005 04:28:00 PM

Okay, so last night I got to go to my last concert for a long time, as I will be saving money for, and then in, London.

Jason Mraz, with openers Raul Midon and Missy Higgins.

Missy kicked off the night, and was awesome. I had heard some of her stuff before, and I really appreciated her live, so I will most likely pick up the album. A used cheap version however, not the jacked up prices at the shows. She was good though. Delightful as a matter of fact. I couldn't help but be charmed by her and her guitar player..I mean..they're Aussie's. They are too cute when they talk.

Raul Midon was F-ing AMAZING! I swear on my music-loving soul. He needs to become a legend, he is the Stevie Wonder of our generation. For those who don't know (pretty much everyone who reads this, minus Maggie and Reid--remember his performance on Leno?) Raul is a blind and pretty much a one-man band. He plays his guitar, while keeping the beat (drumming on it) as he's also playing the melody (and sometimes bass line too), in additon to singing amazing vocals (very soulful) and being a human trumpet (he goes off on these riffs that are amazing, sounds better than any real trumpet I've heard). I am telling you, this guy is probably the most talented men, or person for that matter, I've ever seen in my entire life (and trust me, I've been to alot of shows, with alot of diverse sounds, styles, and levels of artistry and talent). I was definitely amazed by him before, from what I had heard and seen, but the live experience was something completely different. Honestly, at one point he almost moved me to tears. I was seriously standing there with tears in my eyes (although they didn't fall). The dude made me fall in love with him last night. SOOO Inspiring, and SOOO nice on top of that. His twin brother, also blind, works for NASA so there must be something in the genes cause he is a genius, in another way. A very humble, very amazing dude. Much love Raul <3 !

But of course, Mraz, you're still my #1 Geek, and Toca you're still my #1 Lving Teddy Bear---even though you went a little Madonna on me last night (or Janet Jackson if you prefer). Dude had himself a little headset mic, so's that he could wander around the stage with his drum on...very cool, despite the slightly disturbing headgear. I heart you Toca.

Mraz's set was muy excellente. I was really excited to hear the new material from the new album, and Sir did not dissapoint. Bill Bell's replacement on guitar was also quite impressive. I think Mraz fans will respond well to his addition to the Take It Easy Buddies.

Fun Moments:

Mraz did some high school slow dancing (ARMS LENGTH APART! OFF THE BEAT, PEOPLE!) as well as some robot dancing.

Eric had a 'clapper' on the lamp that sits on his keyboards. Mraz made use of this often.

Also Jason found his Poloroid, which was nice. I had missed it. This time it was attached to a large pole, with a button, so he could hold it up, or in front of himself or Adam (reaching over the drum kit) to take pics before throwing them into the audience.

He totally sang the first half of "Dramatica Mujer" (the spanish cover of his song) for Not So Usual. And also sang a verse of The Remedy in French. Muy Impressivo.

The boy was moving around quite oddly. Lots of energy tonight. He kept hopping up on speakers, and doing little spin dance moves, and a couple times just knelt down on the stage and would sing for a while. Once he finally caught himself, and was like, "I have no idea why I'm on my knees right now..." I think (and so does he) it was to get closer to the crowd, since our heads were level with the stage. He could have walked out amongst the faces. "I pulled up the floorboards, and there was this flesh floor under here. Fleshy flesh flesh faces"

And speaking of knees...some girl had brought him a chicken, which he sang about while waiting for a stage-hand to bring him back his guitar (I think he broke a string and they ran off to replace it) and she was holding the chicken (stuffed one mind you) above her head, so the song was something about "She brought a rooster for Meeeeee! She's holding it by it's Kneeeeeees! Oh look here comes my guitar, thanks, this guy's name is Richieeeeeeeee!" There was alot more, but I'm to lame to remember it now. It was fun.

Once again, I think I love him more and more each time I see him, if that's possible. Which it totally is, and I highly recommend all of you see a show sometime. You would really enjoy it. And while you're at it see Raul Midon.

Or at least go here and watch this clip to try and imagine how amazing he would be standing right in front of you playing a 7-8 song set.

PLEASE GO WATCH THIS VIDEO! (Letterman Performance)

OR THIS ONE! (Kennedy Center)

How pissed off am i that my speakers don't work for my computer??? I'm glad that you found your way to your home, even if you had to bump a few people to get there. I think it would be awesome to see him, but i think i might leave the concert going to you. Later.
