StuCo a Life-Preparation Tool? 8/16/2005 03:42:00 PM

I never realized how much of an impact being in a single organization like Student Council when you're in High School can have on one's life; the experiences you experience and learn from, and just the knowledge, and confidence you gain.

Today I had a presentation for a Chamber of Commerce, and the whole time I was thinking about how exactly like a StuCo function the whole thing was, with the whole gathering, eating free food, getting free stuff, and watching the event speaker. Only this time I was on the other end of it. I was the one setting things up, playing little games with people and then throwing prizes at them, and well speaking to large crowds of people and playing the networking (or mingling) game.

It was kinda odd, because I was much better prepared for the whole "vibe" of the thing I guess, than my bosses. They didn't really know "how" to approach things, or the types of things they should do to get good reactions from the people attending. I found myself just instantly falling back into the flow of everything from having attended events like these countless numbers of times. It just made me realize how different I react in those situations from having made the decision to be in (at least) one major (or really any) organization during school, where you get all these opportunities. Whether you gain any skills from attending the workshops/meetings etc. you go to with that group/organization being around them definitely leaves you with something that can be SOO useful in future careers of all kinds.

Just a recent realization I thought I'd share.

That is great! I love that you may such a profound post about Stu. Co. I think you should send that to Mrs. Supanchick to have her post on her board. I'm sure she'd love to see it.
