So Much To Blog About...So Little Time 8/29/2006 07:52:00 PM

Well Blog, I've been thinking of you. Really I have. I meant to call on you....but then certain circumstances prevented it. Or something like that. I mean...I thought about you alot since the last time we blogged, and I even wrote down some specific things that I needed to come share with you in my planner. No, I'm not cheating on you. It was like, four words. Not even a full sentence....I'm not trying to say I don't have time for you anymore, but...well, I won't even go there. And that entire afternoon yesterday spent on surfing Itunes...it meant NOTHING to me!! Okay, okay, that's a lie too. I know, I was wrong, and I'm sorry. Forgive me?

Let's see now, what's been up lately. Well, today I spent all afternoon/evening working the job circuit. Sending out lots of cover letters and resumes, setting up a couple interviews, and anxiously waiting near my inbox for replies, relying on dear friends Patty Griffin and KT Tunstall to calm me.

Speaking of Tunstall, I have two stories. One started this morning. I won a KT poster not too long ago that I've been extremely eager to recieve and after being dissapointed by the lack of its appearance yesterday (when I was sure I'd recieve it) I was a little pouty this morning, thinking I'd give someone (who the campus or US Mail?) a piece of my mind if I didn't get my poster soon.

So I scoot off to class, where I decide to check the Pageant website to make sure that KT's show isn't sold out (as I have yet to purchase my ticket) yet, and my friendly neighbor buddy (also bored out of his mind in HTML class) suddenly jerked his head towards my screen. "Oh, I'm sorry" I exclaimed, "did I scroll past something you were looking at?" He answers with an excited "KT!!!" The fact that he made no mention of her last name (not to mention the excited manner in which he performed his spazzy movement) made me think, hmmm, a fan? Which made me happy to inform the new found fan friend that KT is indeed coming to the STL, and he should attend, as it is sure to be a fantastic evening with the Tunstall.

Then, later after my History of Film class I checked my mail, to find that not only did my textbooks come in today, but so did my KT poster! Weeeee!!! Now I need to get her to sign it. Sounds easy enough (yeah right).

And not only am I excited to start sharing my KT love with others, but I also started compiling my Itunes Library yesterday. I completely forgot that living in a dorm with a shared network is fantastic for trading (*cough* pirating) music with your floormates. Already I've fallen in love with Rhett's Itunes. Seriously the boy is like my musical soulmate...large collections of Aerosmith, All American Rejects, Aqualung, the Beatles(lots and lots of Beatles), Bing Crosby's Christmas album, lots of Brucie, Coldplay, Dane Cook, David Gray, Frank Sinatra, The Fray, Guns n Roses, Garth, Harry Connick Jr.'s X-mas album, Jack's Mannequin, James Blunt, lots of MRAAZZZ (not as much as me), Kanye, Rascal Flatts, Ray LaMontagne, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson...and you get the picture right? Amazing. Then there's Skylar my suitemate who has any and every musical soundtrack you could ever want, and also lots of Mraz :)

Lalalalalala la life is wonderful.....

(anyone who just counted my la's to make sure they are right is a dork--but they should be, yes?)

New Layout...Again 8/27/2006 05:50:00 PM

So this morning I thought I would just play around on the internet for a while, before doing anything. I came across Charley's blog, and discovered her new layout, this made me think, hmm, I should browse for a new layout, as I've gotten a bit bored of mine.

So then after finding a bunch that I liked, but didn't want as my own blog layout just yet (maybe we'll see some of them in the future), I decided I wanted something London reminiscent, as I've been especially missing it as of late. Of course, there are hardly and layouts featuring London, or London as I remember it, so I decided, I'll just have to make my own.

Originally I wanted to make a skyline kinda graphic (similar to the Threadless T-shirt linked in the Inspiration/Credit area) with Big Ben, and the London Eye, Picadilly Circus, and Trafalgar Square in it. However, finding these graphics that would easily be made into silhouettes was a bit more difficult than I thought.

I then suddenly remembered the cartoon-ish skyline with the chimney sweeps from the Mary Poppins musical...which I was originally gonna use, but I only had a pic from my cd case cover, and and one online that were a bit too realistic for me (and hard to make look non-3Dimensional) so I decided to use just the cartoon-y backdrop that is behind the Chimney Sweeps, and then the Mary Flying away, with the moon in the background, and of course the catch phrase, all fell into place naturally.

So here it is. My semi-london-esque, yet still very Steph, new blog layout :)

New Floor Family Day 8/26/2006 12:06:00 PM

Okay, so this morning wasn't the best way to start our day of fun floor activities, but hey, it wouldn't be Webster without crap like that happening all the time [sidenote: even on our first day moving stuff in, in true Webster fashion, the elevator was broken, which just made it feel more at home, but also gave me flashbacks of moving in Freshman year, to the old dorms--where the elevator was also constantly breaking--in all the St. Louis heat..fortunately this year there were less sweaty dads hauling stuff up the 3 flights of stairs, bonding over the idea of ice cold beer].

Anyways, we all went to Breakfast at Marlettos this morning/almost noon, and bonded over some pizza and cold cereal (due to the fire alarms we missed the serving of the real breakfast food). Now, we're heading off to Rockstar Rags downtown, which is closing soon...sadness. They sell clothing by the pound there. Literally, its a pound of clothing for $1.50. Sounds awesome, right? I know you're jealous.

Then I think tonight is some kinda board game night in the lounge or something, so you better believe I will be there, owning all the games. Especially if we get to play Uno Attack, which some girl from the 1st floor is supposed to be bringing.

Thursday night was also pretty cool, there was a free movie at the Moolah theater/lounge, which is like a giant fancy room (think like theatre venues (not movies, but concert/theatrical) or say, the interior of a courthouse with pillars etc, but with carpet) and a bunch of black leather couches. It was awesome. I definitely need to go back there some time. I don't know if they show old movies all the time, or what the specialty is, but we watched Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Arc. Which suprisingly I'd never seen before. But I think I've watched the 2nd one about a hundred times, and the 3rd maybe a handful.

For now that's about it. I'm running out of time, and I gotta find my way to Rockstar Rags, I'm already a few minutes behind, due to my sudden decision to blog before leaving. Cheers!

It's good to see that things are going well for you, but i'm proud to say that we haven't had any fire alarms go off yet, (yes, i just knocked on wood, literally). I hope that things continue to go well for you. Later.

Back to School 8/26/2006 09:49:00 AM

Well, the first week is done. And although the first week seems the most hectic, I feel as if I'm still not ready for what's to come.

Ugggghhhhhh...I was just getting ready to type a But, blah blah happy line, about the new dorms etc. but then Webster has to go being ridiculous again, even with brand new facilities. After I finished that sentence the freaking fire alarm went off again. It's the first week but already we've had to uproot ourselves in early mornings (well 9:45 this time) to evacuate. This time some stupid girl on the third floor was getting ready (early riser) and set the alarm off with her hairspray...either our new systems are extremely sensitive or she uses WAY TOO MUCH HAIRSPRAY!!!!

Now I'm kinda cranky from having to stand outside where its cold and wet, after waking up all nice and warm...in my room, where i don't need shoes...and t-shirts and shorts suffice for proper climate-wear.

I think I'm gonna have to come finish this later.

Oh, and what must be the GREATEST DUET TO EVER BE RECORDED ON THE PLANET EARTH is in the works. Reba confirmed that she'll be working with the KC and with Brooks & Dunn on this new album.

And, finally, I have just started work on a new album of duets. I'm calling artists I've always admired to sing with me on this one. We've got some great responses already and I think we have some really special songs picked out. I'll keep you updated on our progress.

Rollercoaster of Emotions 8/05/2006 01:26:00 PM

So much for the trying to journal/blog every day.

Anyways, Weezy is now gone = Steph sad, Princess elated. She is seriously happier than ever. What a bitch, eh?

It's crazy that I'm gonna be going back to St. Louis so soon. I mean, I'm extremely excited for classes and seeing Abby and Sam, but its gonna be wierd, since I haven't been there since last Fall. When I think of returning to school, I almost feel like I'm going back to 'school-life' as I knew it in London. Which obvioulsy isn't happening, so that saddens me as well.

Speaking of Abby, the other day I spent the entire day sorting my cd collection (trying to make room for who gets to come to the new dorm with me) and obviously alot of time was spent on the KT Tunstall section--even though she only has one album out, I have a bunch of live bootlegs, and her independent records when she was a poor artist busking in Scotland ('busking' means playing streetside or wherever, on boardwalks etc. for money, you know when you toss a few extra coins to the struggling artist). Anyways, I was sorting some of that shiz out, when I get a text from Abby saying, "You're the one who likes KT, right?" and I was like, "uh, yeah...LOVERHER!" and I had a feeling she was prompting me for a reason, so I was already excited knowing she had some KT news. Though I didnt know if it was news I already knew or not, me being the more avid fan obviously. I knew she was playing a gig in Indianapolis, about 4-6 hrs away from STL that I was planning on going to (because I cannot NOT see KT live when she's touring the states, KT live = the essence of why KT is amazing). But Abby texted me back saying she's playing Sept. 20th at the Pageant (in St. Louis) which got me super excited. Yay! Less gas money needed to go see her! (Although if that's the 2nd closest show, I might just go see that one in addition anyway).

So the whole day I was floating on cloud nine with anticipation, listening to my live KT bootlegs, picturing myself in the crowd of screaming/clapping noises coming from my speakers. Eeee! I'm getting goosebumps right now just thinking about it.

Though last night, I was just very 'blah' and I guess maybe a little 'depressed' you could say. I started sorting through some other crap in a box (I have many) of stuff to take with me or leave here, and this happened o be a box of stuff from London. There were a couple papers I'd written that I decided I should add to my collection of all the papers I've written, but I almost felt like I wanted to keep my writings from that period seperate from my other body of work, just because, its special, its stuff I wrote for classes I took in London.

Nostalgia got the best of me, and I started reading two of my Film papers, which even though they were about these worlds in these two movies, made me miss my London world, just remembering what was going on when I was writing the papers. Its very strange. But then I was suddenly very missing of Noel (perhaps because she's a writer--or perhaps because I found the note she left on Abby and I's door the morning she and Becca left, thrown in with my papers), and I was almost to tears, so I was gonna call her, but it was already after 10pm here, which means it was after 11pm there. So I didn't. Which is probably good, cause if I did call her I probably would have started bawling on the phone.

And today I'm feeling very...emotionless. I'm just kinda sitting here in a funk. Making some KT concert dvds, which should be a little exciting--or maybe when I watch them later. Funnily enough, I just got a new e-mail from Abby as I was writing that last sentence. But that didn't make me overly giddy this morning either. Strange.

OWWWW!!! Okay, now I feel something. Pain. Dammit. I was just gonna take a drink of my French Vanilla Cappuccino, and then click, Publish Post, and when I looked up to click, I fricken spilled my hot (but tasty) drink all over my lap. On top of burning my tongue. Pffft!
