I have a newfound respect
2/12/2005 01:52:00 PM for all producers, audio engineers, and all the sound techs and assistants that come into play, working in the studio. I now understand why it takes days continuing into the night, and then wee hours of the mourning, and then repeat that for a week or two to record one song. I was in the studio all morning and just got out. And I'm hungry, I didn't eat breakfast or lunch. It took us freakin two hours just to set everything up (cause the console has to be all shut down and reset at nothing each time you leave) and get things working. And we weren't even setting any special settings for a specific "sound" or relying on any talent recording vocals or instruments where you need multiple takes until you're satisfied. It almost makes me glad that half of those artists who just go in and "sing" make so much money for being so overproduced on cds and in the studio, because of all the work that those engineers and producers must go through to get them to sound as good as they do. It also makes me appreciate sound guys at like concerts and stuff alot more too, and all the dudes running around hooking stuff up. I remember being really pissed at how long it took to do the sound check at the Rooney concert, and being mad that they didn't have it done ahead of time, but dammnnnnn, there are ALOT of freaking things you have to go through to troubleshoot before you find where the problem is. Today we could get signals that the mikes and music were being sent to the console, and to the DAT recorder, but we could hear nothing from the speakers, or when we played back the recordings. Which is a much smaller problem than not getting anything to record at all. At least we know we can do that ;) But we could not figure it out, so we left 2 hrs early and are gonna go back next Sat and Sun. I feel like its 8 in the morning....time flies in the studio. Which is bad when you need to get things done, and it takes hours but seems like 5 mins, and those hours cost you thousands of dollars. Heehee, one upside to being a student. You get so much free stuff :) |
